MARSIDIAN PRIVACY POLICY
How the Marsidian app accesses, uses, stores and shares Google user data.
Last updated: 2026-10-20 · Applies to the Android app Marsidian, available on Google Play
Marsidian is an Android app for viewing and editing Markdown notes stored in the user’s own Google Drive. This Privacy Policy describes how Marsidian accesses, uses, stores, shares and protects Google user data, and how users can delete it.
1. Who we are (data controller)
Marsidian is developed by MARS 202, obrt za IT usluge, owner Sanjin Maržić, Vidikovac 3, 51000 Rijeka, Croatia (“we”, “us”). Contact: privacy@mars202.hr.
2. Google user data the app accesses
When you choose “Sign in with Google”, Marsidian requests your permission for the following Google user data:
| Data | Google API / scope | Why it is accessed |
|---|---|---|
| Files and folders in your Google Drive | Google Drive API, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive |
To list your folders so you can choose a vault, to find folders named .obsidian (existing Obsidian vaults), and to read, create, update, rename and move to trash the Markdown notes and attachments inside the folder you chose. |
| Your Google account email address and display name | Google Drive API, about resource |
To show which Google account is signed in, in the app’s settings. |
Marsidian does not access Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, Photos, location, or any other Google or device data.
3. How we use Google user data
- Google user data is used only to provide the features you use in the app: choosing a vault, viewing and editing notes, and keeping the notes on your phone in sync with your Google Drive.
- It is not used for advertising, marketing, analytics, profiling, credit checks, or to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning models.
4. How we store Google user data
- Copies of the notes from the chosen folder, their file names and sync status are stored in the app’s private storage on your device, so you can read and edit them offline. Images and other attachments are cached on the device when you open them.
- Your changes are saved back only to your own Google Drive.
- We do not operate any servers for Marsidian. Google user data is never sent to, received by, or stored by us.
- Access tokens are managed by Google Play services on your device and are not stored by us.
5. How we share Google user data
- We do not share, sell, rent or transfer Google user data to any third party.
- The only transfer is between your device and Google’s own APIs (Google Drive), which is necessary for the app to work and happens at your request.
- The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
6. How we protect Google user data
- All communication with Google APIs uses encrypted HTTPS (TLS) connections.
- Data on the device is kept in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read.
- The app only requests access when you sign in, and you can revoke it at any time.
7. Retention and deletion
- Local copies are kept on your device until you sign out or uninstall the app. Signing out (Settings → Sign out) deletes all local copies of your vaults and cached files immediately.
- You can revoke Marsidian’s access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Files in your Google Drive remain under your control; removing the app does not delete them.
- Since we store no Google user data, there is nothing to delete on our side. You can contact us with any question at privacy@mars202.hr.
8. Google API Services User Data Policy – Limited Use
Marsidian’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- Google user data is used only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in the app’s user interface.
- It is not transferred to others, except as necessary to provide those features (to Google Drive), to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with your consent.
- It is not used or transferred for serving advertisements, including retargeting, personalised or interest-based advertising.
- No human reads Google user data, unless you give explicit consent for specific data (for example, a file you send us in a support request), it is necessary for security purposes, or it is required by law.
9. Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because Marsidian keeps your data only on your device and in your own Google Drive, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app or in your Google account. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP, azop.hr).
10. Children
Marsidian is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly process their data.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
